So, What Is Judo?

What Is Judo?

“A sport of unarmed combat derived from jiu-jitsu, intended to train body and mind, that involves using holds and leverage to unbalance the opponent”

Judo is a Japanese martial art or 'unarmed' combat where the objective is to cleanly throw your opponent on to the ground on their shoulder, pin them to the ground on their back or force your opponent to submit to a choke, strangle or armlock.

Judo was created with the desire for safe physical education, and because of this, has been adopted in many countries all over the world for decades.

Judo made its debut as an Olympic sport in 1964 for men and 1994 for women. Judo has quickly become one of the most popular forms of martial arts, famous for its strict ruleset.

There have been many changes to the sport throughout the years to ensure it is safe, yet still full of skill.

Judo literally means "The gentle way" in Japanese, designed as a form of self defence and a skill used to protect yourself.
